The Dojo Kun(Dojo Oath)
The Dojo Oath is correctly called the 'Dojo Kun' which is
recited by all students at the end of every training
session.
It was written especially for Sosai Matsutatsu Oyama by Eiji
Yoshikowa, the author of 'Musashi'.
When you read and understand it you will see that it was written to
show respect for kyokushin, it’s teachings as an art and
importantly respect for others within and outside the
dojo.
Here are the words of the Dojo Kun.
We will train our hearts and bodies
for a firm unshaken spirit.
We will pursue the true meaning of the martial way so that in time
our senses may be alert.
With true vigour we will seek to cultivate a spirit of self
denial.
We will observe the rules of courtesy, respect our superiors and
refrain from violence.
We will follow our God or Buddha and never forget the true virtue
of humility.
We will look upwards to wisdom and strength, not seeking other
desires.
All our lives, through the discipline of karate, we will seek to
fulfil the true meaning of the kyokushin way.
